Northern Pacific train (first) number 1, the coach section of the westbound North Coast Limited, climbs toward the summit of Stampede Pass at Martin, Washington, in 1945. Leading the steam locomotive is new diesel freight locomotive number 6001, 5400-hp model FT built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in 1944.
