Scope and content

The Northern Pacific Railroad Records Collection includes Valuation Records which provide an inventory of the entire railroad at the time the records were created. Most of valuation reports are from the early to mid 1920s. Items include bridges, tunnels, track structure, buildings, signaling, shops (including tools), rolling stock and locomotives. The collectionincludes some 50 volumes corresponding to geographic areas of the railroad (Valuation Sectio). There is a volume of maps showing the Valuation Sections in detail. Some of the records correspond to subsidiary companies of the Northern Pacific such as the Minnesota & International and the Duluth Union Depot and Transfer Railway. The collection also includes Interstate Commerce Commision Accident Reports, Interstate Commerce Commision OAO and Northern Pacific Railroad Mechanical Department documents.
