Biographical history

Wade Stevenson’s collection, reportedly numbered at some 25,000 photographs, was taken over the many years he worked for various railroads from approximately 1940 to the 1980’s. At the end of his railroad career, he worked for the Milwaukee Road in Othello, Washington as a machinist's helper. According to a 1961 article in “The Milwaukee Road Magazine” published for their employees, Wade had contributed dozens of photos for “Trains”, “Railroad Magazine”, and a book “Western Trains”. He died April 12, 2006, in Othello.

The portion of the Wade J Stevenson Collection in the custody of railroad historical associations affiliated with Railroad Archives Online is comprised of prints and negatives of Great Northern Railway equipment and locations, movies of Great Northern Railway Historical Society meetings, Northern Pacific Railroad equipment and locations, and, prints and negatives of Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway equipment and locations.

Custodial history

The Wade J Stevenson estate donated this collection to the Milwaukee Road Historical Association, which in turn donated applicable portions to several other railroad historical associations, including the Great Northern Historical Society, Northern Pacific Railway Historical Association and the Spokane, Portland and Seattle Railway Historical Society. Each association maintains the portion of the materials in its custody.
